Beauty, Bronzed

Getting Bronzed, or “spray tanned” is truly the way to go these days.  After a full winter of deep exfoliation, chemical peels, and laser to get my aging skin where it needs to be, I surely do not want to be sitting in the sun.  However, I do want to look beautifully bronzed.
We began doing this service at R.J. West a few years ago in a small room with a pop up tent, little ventilation and spa lighting.  We realized that it was really messy, and not always the best application due to the poor lighting.  When creating our new space I wanted clients to get the best service possible while also making sure that they would feel comfortable, would be able to move around, and breathe in deeply and confidently.  In our new home at R.J. West, we created a beautiful, well ventilated space with river stones at your feet, and side and overhead lighting allowing for the perfect application.  This way, clients of any age can feel comfortable no matter which one of our highly trained and experienced estheticians are doing the service.  We supply all guests with disposable undergarments for top and bottom to cover areas that you may not want to have tanned.

The number one question I hear when talking about body bronzing is, “Will I look orange?”.  The answer is, absolutely not.  We provide a few choices of sprays with a color selection ranging from fair to dark and deep shades.  We offer tanning solutions that are certified organic and natural, gluten free, paraben free, sulfate free, nut free and 100% vegan.  As for choosing your shade I always say be brave!  It develops and looks darkest during the first 8 hours before you wash off the excess.  You can go at least 2 or 3 shades darker than you think to end up with your perfect shade!

I have found, over the years of getting sprayed, that it is best to shave 12-24 hours before as well as exfoliate with a dry mitt or exfoliating scrub or cream.  Don’t make the mistake of applying lotion or oil the day of your spray or your tan may come out streaky or blotchy.  It is best to be dry, free of moisturizers and deodorant to allow the product to adhere to your skin properly.  During the service, your esthetician will direct you on how to stand and when to turn around.  You can customize your tan at this time to focus more on specific areas of the body if you would like to.  When your spray is done, take 3 to 5 minutes to stand in the bronzing room with the fans going to help you dry.  Make sure that you are not sticky or too tacky before putting your clothes back on.  I highly recommend wearing very loose clothing and flip flops if possible to prevent lines in your fresh new tan!
It’s that easy!
